چکیده

Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are often malnourished before starting the primary or adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Due to therapy related adversary effects of RT CRT number patients rises 88% during ongoing therapy. Malnutrition can have a negative influence on therapycourse clinical outcome. There still not enough prospective, randomized studies nutritional status (C-)RT From October 2018 2020, 61 HSNCC, into control intervention group (IG), was measured at beginning, every 2 weeks end The risk malnutrition evaluated established screening tools (NRS-2002, MUST, Nutriscore) 3-day diet diaries, underwent examinations, laboratory analyses bioelectrical impedance analyses. In addition, IG had individualized counseling weeks. Before therapy, median BMI all 23.8 (14.5-37.2) kg/m2 after fell 22.9 (16.8-33) (p<0.001). baseline fat-free mass index (FFMI) for 18.1 (14-24.7) kg/m2, which dropped 17.8 (13.4-21.6) ending Control lost more weight compared compliant participants <22 kg/m2(p=0.0015, CI: 0.33-2.95). MUST only questionnaire, showed high sensitivity (86%) specificity (88%) in predicting malnutrition. 2-year overall survival rate 70% 79% (log-rank p=0.79). A clear impact observed pretherapeutic phase angle, posttherapeutic FFMI albumin level blood as indicators p=0.002, p=0.008, p=0.016). has an adverse patients’ outcome undergoing (chemo-) radiotherapy. Pretherapeutic be considered survival.

Nutritional intervention improves the caloric and proteic ingestion of head and neck cancer patients under radiotherapy.

Malnutrition is commonly associated with head and neck cancer, due especially to anorexia, which is aggravated by radiotherapy. The objective of this study was to evaluate modifications to nutritional ingestion following three types of nutritional intervention. Sixty-four male out-patients (62.1 +/- 1.5 years) were divided into three groups: oral group, (n=32) that received an adapted oral diet...

Impact of nutrition on outcome: a prospective randomized controlled trial in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND We aimed to determine the effect of dietary counseling or oral supplements on outcome for patients with cancer, specifically, nutritional outcome, morbidity, and quality of life (QOL), during and 3 months after radiotherapy. METHODS Seventy-five patients with head and neck cancer who were referred for radiotherapy (RT) were randomized to the following groups: group 1 (n = 25), pati...

Assessment of Swallowing and Neck Dysfunction Post Radiotherapy/Chemo-Radiotherapy in Head and Neck Cancer Patients

Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) is a broad term that includes carcinomas arising from head and neck region and the most common type is squamous cell carcinoma [1]. HNC patients experience treatment-related complications that may interfere with health related quality of life (HRQOL [2]. Cancers of head and neck include malignant tumors of the buccal cavity, larynx, pharynx, thyroid, salivary glands, ...

DOES HYPERFRACTIONATED RADIOTHERAPY CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF HEAD AND NECK CANCER? A TRIAL COMPARING CONVENTIONAL WITH HYPERFRACTIONATED RADIOTHERAPY

The optimal fractionation schedule for radiotherapy of head and neck cancer has been controversial. The objective of this randomized trial was to test the efficacy of hyperfractionation vs. standard fractionation. Patients with squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck organs were randomly assigned to receive radiotherapy delivered with A) standard fractionation at 2 Gy/fraction/day, 5 days...
